How to recognize it

If the handle pulls toward you before water comes on, it's the 1225 family. If it only turns, it's a Posi-Temp 1222. Simplified drawing, not to scale.

Don't mix it up

Most common mix-up is with the 1225: if the handle pulls out, it's not a 1222.
M-CORE 2 Series also rotates only; rule out M-CORE (1212) first.
Moen's 104421 cartridge puller is made for the 1200, 1225 and 1222. For 1200/1225 pull the stem to full open first; for a 1222 turn the stem so its notch faces up.

Good to know

Moen sells its Posi-Temp repair kit as 'for 1222/1222B' (model 98040; bulk 96988), treating 1222 and 1222B as the same fit. eBay listings tie 1222/1222B to Moen numbers 158084/158085 (unverified).
